Eternal MMA 47
Saturday September 7th
HBF Stadium, Perth.
Ben Vickers Recap.
Eternal MMA 47 went down last weekend and what a show it was. It really was a showcase of the up and coming talent that this country and particularly Western Australia, has to offer.
We had a lot of first timers and early career fighters stepping in to the cage. They showed some real composure and skills beyond their experience. There was a great example of this in the young man Charlie Macgleave, 18 years of age, who showed real class under fire as he took on a bigger, stronger, and more experienced opponent in the talented Quillan Salkilld.
It was a striker vs grappler match up and Quillan had a clear game plan to take the fight to the mat while Charlie wanted to throw hands and feet. Once the fight hit the mat Quillan definitely had the upper handbut Charlie didn’t panic and defended himself with ease. Quillan took a wide decisionvictory but Charlie took a host of experience that will serve him well for his promising career.
Another young star of the night was ‘The Canadian Gangster’ Logan Murray. He wrestled and ground and pounded his way to victory over a slick striker in Ezra Creagh. In doing so he gained a lot of fans and blew the roof of the stadium with his all action style, he is definitely be one to watch in the future.
We moved up the ranks for the final 3 fights, starting off with Cody Haddon vs John Calderon out of Melbourne.
Cody is a hot amateur prospect and has reached 4-0 in his short career thus far.
John Calderon has a solid resume and had been training full time in Thailand before moving to Melbourne and the MMA power house of Absolute MMA.
Cody looked really crisp in the striking and had John in trouble early when he landed flush on the jaw of the American.
John was scrambling for a takedown and unfortunately the referee jumped in and stopped it early which deprived John of his chance to get back in the fight and Cody to get the finish in the manner he would have liked.
Cody moves to 5-0 and will be looking to go pro very soon.
Calderon proved he has the skills and may also look to move in to the pro ranks soon.
Home town boy Ryan Robertson was happy to be fighting back in Perth and, as always, put on a show. Ryan secured a D’arce choke in the second round after a back and forth affair with the game and talented Jack Ferguson out of Team Quest Thailand.
Another great win for crowd favorite Ryan Robertson much to the delight of a partisan Perth crowd.
In the main event another local, Stephen Erceg took on Paul Loga in a flyweight clash with title connotations.
Erceg, coming off a huge win over Tim Moore in the Gold Coast kept the momentum going with a clinical and devastating KO victory.
Loga is one of the toughest guys in the game and to finish him like that really made a statement and there can be no question that Stephen deserves next shot at Shannon Ross’s title.
It was another fantastic showing here in Perth and showed the growth of the sport is real in Australia right now.
